Motor Insurance
Car Insurance is here to ensure that if your vehicle is damaged or stolen you are able to get back on the road as soon as possible. You will also be covered for any damages you cause to a third party’s property.
Whether you use your vehicle for daily commuting or you have a prestige vehicle that is used for special occasions we have you covered.
Comprehensive Cover
Our most complete protection for your vehicle, covering damage to your car from accidents, theft, fire, storm, hail, flood, and malicious acts. This all-inclusive coverage ensures you’re protected against virtually any insurable event that could damage or destroy your vehicle. Comprehensive cover includes all the benefits of third-party liability protection plus full coverage for your own vehicle, regardless of who is at fault in an accident.
Third-Party Liability
Essential protection against legal liability for damage your vehicle causes to other people’s property, including their vehicles. This coverage is included in comprehensive policies and also available as a standalone option (Third-Party Property Damage). It protects you against potentially expensive repair costs to other vehicles and property, which can run into tens of thousands of pounds, particularly if you damage a luxury vehicle or cause structural damage to buildings.
Agreed or Market Value
Flexibility to choose how your vehicle will be valued in the event of a total loss. Agreed value provides a predetermined settlement amount agreed upon when taking out the policy, giving certainty about what you’ll receive. Market value covers the current market worth of your vehicle at the time of loss, accounting for age, condition, and mileage. Agreed value typically suits unique, classic, or modified vehicles, while market value often provides lower premiums for standard vehicles.
Prestige Vehicles
Specialised coverage designed for luxury, high-performance, and collectable automobiles with unique insurance needs. These policies account for higher repair costs, specialised parts, and the particular driving patterns of prestige vehicles. Coverage can include agreed value, genuine parts guarantee, choice of repairer specialising in prestige marques, and higher limits for accessories and modifications common to luxury vehicles.
New for Old
Replacement of your vehicle with a brand new equivalent if your car is declared a total loss within a specific period after purchase (typically 2-3 years). This valuable benefit ensures you receive a comparable new vehicle rather than just the depreciated value of your damaged car. This coverage is particularly beneficial for new vehicle owners, protecting against the significant depreciation that occurs in the early years of ownership.
Cover for Limited Use
Discounted premiums for vehicles driven less frequently or for shorter distances. This option recognises the reduced risk associated with vehicles that aren’t daily commuters or that travel fewer kilometres annually. By accurately reflecting your vehicle’s usage pattern, you can potentially save significantly on premiums whilst maintaining comprehensive protection for when you do drive.
Choice of Repairer
Freedom to select your preferred repair shop rather than being limited to insurer-approved facilities. This option allows you to use a trusted mechanic or specialist repairer who understands your vehicle, particularly valuable for prestige, classic, or modified cars requiring specialised knowledge. Having this flexibility ensures repairs meet your expectations for quality and craftsmanship.
Hire Car
Provision of a replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired following an insured claim or if it’s stolen. This coverage ensures continued mobility during repairs, minimising disruption to your daily routine. Options typically include coverage for a specified daily rate, a set period (usually up to 14-21 days), or until repairs are completed, depending on your policy selection.
Windscreen Extension
Specialised coverage for windscreen, window glass, and sunroof damage without affecting your no-claims bonus and often with a reduced or waived excess. This practical benefit recognises that glass damage is common and typically not the result of driver error. The extension ensures quick repairs of chips and cracks that might otherwise compromise visibility and safety without penalising your premium rating.

What is the difference between Third-Party Property Damage Liability and Compulsory Third-Party (CTP) insurance in car insurance?
Third-party property Damage Liability is part of your Car Insurance policy and covers you in the event you cause an accident that damages a third party’s vehicle or other property. This is often mistaken for your Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP) that is required when registering a vehicle. Your CTP insurance only covers you for injuries caused to others in a motor vehicle accident.
What information do I need to obtain if I am in an accident to support my car insurance claim?
If you are in an accident with another driver and it is safe to do so, it is important to obtain as many details from third parties as possible to ensure a smooth car insurance claim process.
You should collect the following information:
- Registration number
- Type of vehicle
- Name
- Date of Birth
- Address
- Copy of both sides of the driver’s licence
- Contact number
- Email address
- Insurance details
- Contact details of any witnesses
- Photos of damage to all vehicles and property involved
Would the accessories on my vehicle be covered by my car insurance?
When looking at ensuring a vehicle often aftermarket accessories are overlooked. These can include bull bars, tow bars, roof racks, exhaust systems and the like which can add substantial value to your vehicle. Some insurers include these automatically in their policy wording and others will need them to be listed on the policy schedule.
This is where having an insurance broker like Knightsbridge Insurance Group comes in handy as we review the policies and cover for you and can explain the differences in cover.
How do I lodge a claim with my car insurance?
As part of your Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy, Knightsbridge is here to take the stress out of your claim, and we represent you, not the insurance company. Give us a call or send us an email and we will manage the claim on your behalf.
What factors affect my car insurance premium?
Your premium is influenced by numerous factors including:
- Vehicle make, model, age, and value
- Your driving and claims history
- Age and experience of all listed drivers
- Where the vehicle is kept overnight (garage, carport, street)
- Your suburb and state (different risk profiles apply)
- Annual kilometres driven
- Security features (immobilisers, alarms, tracking devices)
- Whether the vehicle is financed
- Any modifications or accessories
- Your excess amount (higher excess typically means lower premium)
Each insurer weighs these factors differently, which is why quotes can vary significantly between providers.
Does my car insurance cover other drivers?
Most personal car insurance policies extend coverage to other drivers who use your vehicle with your permission, though conditions may apply. Some policies restrict coverage to named drivers only or apply an additional excess for drivers under a certain age or not listed on the policy. It’s important to check your policy’s terms regarding other drivers and ensure anyone regularly using your vehicle is listed as a driver to avoid potential claim issues.
